The following is a transcript of a PressTV interview with Conservative Arab Network speaker, Wafik Moustafa.
PressTV:Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has reportedly used poisonous gas against anti-government protesters. Why hasn't this been condemned by the West?
Moustafa: Well, I believe that it has been condemned and Yemen has been a concern for everybody watching what is happening. The political dynamics in the country is slightly different as I would say it is somewhere between Egypt and Libya and you know Yemen is a quit fragile state and is a very poor country. And it is where we talk about al-Qaeda's effect on it. So I think Yemen has got its hands full of problems as it says dancing on the head of snakes. So I think it is reaching its tipping point. I would say a few Fridays from now I could imagine it should be the end of the regime there.
Thirty-two million people earn under two dollars a day in Yemen and only half a million people earn reasonable income. So I think time is ripe for a revolution, ripe for uprising and it is ready for change after 32 years of one man's rule. It is a very difficult situation in Yemen and has been so for several years as considered one of the poorest states in the world. I think the government probably governs main cities but has no control on the rest of the country as we know. And that's why the United States is playing a big role in Yemen and as well the president does support the United States efforts at its war on terror.
The whole world is in real revolution, it has never happened probably for a thousand years. It never happened before. The Arab world for the first time is calling for its freedom, calling for its voice to be heard and calling for justice.
PressTV: Do you agree that the West needs totally not be involved in the situation that's happening or do you think that the involvement could help?
Moustafa: The great powers like the United States, China, Europe and Russia have their own universal interests. Even a country like Iran does have its interests. So I think it would be dreaming to think that the West would sit idle and watching things happening around.
The West is preparing for a no fly zone on Libya and the Arab league supports more or less no fly zone and they would need the West because they need the technology and knowhow to silence Libyan air force.
